IRON SPRINGS TRADITIONS

Iron Springs has never been a particularly traditional resort - we have too many quirks. But that may be precisely the reason we play such an important part in so many of our guests’ traditions. Whether the annual November girlfriend getaway for storm-watching, the yearly family reunion, or just the place you go with your kids for clamming, Iron Springs may start out as a place to vacation, but we soon become the place you want to return to year after year.

These are a few of our favorite Iron Springs recollections from guests. Feel free to share yours with us at [email protected].

My family has been coning here for over 30 years. This place is a part of the family and the new renovations are impressive. ~AM--Great beach getaway! Great place to unwind with family, friend and dogs. Love the cabins and the location.~SP

This place is beautiful! We are having a good time. The kids love it here. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The pictures online do not give this place justice. We will definitely have to come back again. ~AM

Cabin #14 is remarkably quiet, a very welcoming and comfortable retreat for a nice get away. Fireplace, awesome view of the ocean and beach, not to mention a huge deck ready for a BBQ. ~MB

I have been coming to Iron Springs for about 40 years. First as a child with my parents, then as a teenager, then with my husband. We have come summer and winter, brought friends, neighbors, in-laws, a few miscellaneous boyfriends of my sister. We made 8 mm movies here, saved oil-soaked birds after an oil spill, and carried my grandma in a chair over streams to the beach. Now I come with my family, my 2 daughters and husband. My parents are gone now, and my grandma is 100 years old so she won’t be making the trip here anymore (though she sent us with her best wishes and asked about the cinnamon rolls). So I keep coming back. The boat, the old pilings, the low gray sky, the dripping salal leaves and cabins are as familiar as any memory. The trip here is as much a sacred ritual as any in a church. ~D, M, L & J

My family has been coming to Iron Springs every year for the July 4th holiday since I was five years old (in 1965). Our group has grown to include our best friends and many generations, to the point where we book about 20 cabins during our stay.

As you can imagine, we have a lot of stories to tell, and some wonderful memories. When it had to close last year for renovations, we were very worried—would our beloved vacation spot become a pile of condos? Would it be modified beyond recognition?

It was with a great deal of relief that we came back this year to see that not only did the True family hold dear the place that we loved, but they understood exactly what to keep the same and what to modify for the better.

It’s fantastic. We couldn’t be happier. We look forward to 45 more years of making fond memories. ~K & K

I can’t explain in words how much Iron Springs has meant to my family over the years. The memories are so varied and plentiful. We started when my kids were tiny babies; now I will have all my grandkids with us. ~A.K.

We are four families who have spent every Labor Day weekend at Iron Springs since 1986. An entire generation of kids who only know the Pacific Beach Kelpers parade as their Labor Day entertainment. This will be our 25th visit, since we had to miss last year due to the remodel. The kids are grown now; they'll have to get their own cabins. ~T.H.

Ever since I first started visiting Iron Springs, it has always been my favorite get away...I always feel most relaxed by the sea and all of my stays at Iron Springs have been memorable. ~B.P.

Our dogs loved it at Iron Springs and were always welcomed. We dug razor clams on many occasions. My husband would get up before daylight to try to be the first one on the beach in his ongoing search for agates, even finding some Japanese fishing floats. ~C.A.

What a perfect place to get away from our hectic life. The view from our cabin was absolutely stunning and the sunset was one of the most beautiful I have ever experienced. ~C.H.

My parents spent their Honeymoon at Iron Springs in 1955 and the family has been going back ever since. No matter how much the world has changed over the years that magical stretch of ocean is always the same. This is one of Washington’s true treasures; you can't find a more beautiful, secluded stretch of beach on the Washington coast. ~J.H.

I can’t remember a time that I didn’t know Iron Springs. We grew up going there on holiday, both in summer and winter (the blustery storms were great adventures!). Our whole family has wonderful memories from our many visits. ~L.A.

Iron Springs is secluded, the environment somewhat raw, the atmosphere uncomplicated. Pleasure came from very simple activities and I always came back feeling recentered. ~M.E.

We were here at Iron Springs Resort 25 years ago for our honeymoon. 25 years later, we were not disappointed by the weather. Beautiful view, snowstorm, hail, windstorm, all on Saturday. Cozy fires, good movies and my two best friends, my husband and our beagle. We’ll be returning again soon. ~C.M.

We loved all the cool old trees. We walked the beach with our puppy, the wind blowing in our hair and the sun on our faces; found some treasures that we will cherish along with our memories at Iron Springs Resort. ~M.B.

We are here from California for our grandbaby’s first Christmas with the whole extended family here to celebrate. We woke up Christmas morning and it was snowing – the perfect Christmas day. This will be a Christmas to remember. ~B.D.

A perfect start to a perfect future – no stress, no conflicts, no worries. Simply perfect. ~D&J

Nearly 5 years ago, we were here for the first time. Not much has changed here. The view is spectacular, especially at night with the moonlight glinting off the water. This is a special place for us. My husband proposed to me in front of the bay window’s view. To all future visitors, have a beautiful, relaxing stay. ~S.S.

My Iron Springs story began when I was a teenager and my parents brought us here. We’re here to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. Our wish is that those who share this cabin also have someone they love to share it with them – life is best when shared. It is good for the soul to spend time in this place. ~J&B

The ocean, it’s so peaceful and yet so violent and all at the same time. The rains roll in and the wind begins to howl like a concert in rhyme. Outside my window it is picturesque beyond compare, with the trees so majestic, their arms stretching up into the air. I can’t wait to see a bald eagle with its wings outstretched soaring by. But in the meantime I get to watch the seagulls with their pristine white feathers fly high. Then there is a day of sunshine with the sky as blue as can be, and the sandpipers marking their path in the sand for all to see. Then as the sun decides to go to bed for the night, all the birds begin to take flight. As the sky turns pink, orange and dark blue, the stars begin to say hello and the sky takes on a whole new hue. After 25 years of coming to Iron Springs, we truly appreciate the beauty and serenity this cabin brings. ~K

My sister and I came here 25 years ago. We left our husbands to care for our 1 year old babies so we could get away and have a breather! We lay on the beach in our bathing suits with blankets wrapped around us. The cabin is beautiful and just what we needed. Rest, rest and more rest. We’ve barely left the place – watched old movies, laughed, cried, played games, slept, read books. Now it’s time to return to the real world. We have made a pact to come back again and again. I hope whoever else is lucky enough to enjoy this wonderful place will find it as charming and magical as we have. ~P.B & S.G.
